Kri Kri is Greece’s largest ice cream manufacturer and a leading producer of authentic Greek yogurt, supplying high-quality dairy products worldwide. The production facility generates 3000 m3 of wastewater and 200 m3 of whey daily. This waste stream, rich in fats, oils, grease, and suspended solids, undergoes a pre-treatment process to separate contaminants before the remaining wastewater and solid waste are processed separately.
Each day, approximately 26 tons of COD are treated using the ECSB (External Circulation Sludge Bed) reactor and SWD (solid waste digestion) system. This pollution load is equivalent to the wastewater produced by a city of over 200.000 people.
The installed technologies enable Kri Kri to extract value from its wastewater and solid waste. When operating at full capacity, the treatment plant generates approximately 500 Nm3 / h of biogas.
This biogas is then purified using the chemical caustic scrubber, which effectively removes over 95% of H2S.
The methane-rich biogas, derived from Kri Kri’s wastewater and solid waste, has the potential to generate enough electrical energy to continuously power over 2,000 households.
By integrating our advanced treatment solutions, Kri Kri Dairy continues its commitment to sustainability, operational efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
