AquaThane N Removal

AquaThane’s Advanced Nitrogen Removal treatment – Anammox process

AquaThane’s Advanced Nitrogen Removal treatment offers an efficient solution for treating wastewater with high nitrogen (ammonium) concentrations and low chemical oxygen demand (COD).

This advance system is based on the anaerobic ammonium oxidation, Anammox process, utilizing granular biomass technology to achieve excellent nitrogen removal while keeping operational costs and environmental impact low.

The system operates as a single-stage process, where both partial nitritation (conversion of ammonium to nitrite) and the anammox reaction (conversion of ammonium and nitrite directly into nitrogen gas) occur simultaneously in the same reactor. This eliminates the need for multiple treatment stages, simplifying operations and reducing energy consumption.

Key advantages:

  • Uses up to 60% less aeration than traditional nitrification-denitrification processes.
  • Lower operational costs due to reduced oxygen needs.
  • Generates up to 80% less sludge than traditional biological treatment processes, reducing disposal costs.
  • Single-tank operation system minimizes footprint, costs, and infrastructure complexity.
  • Ideal for retrofitting existing facilities with minimal changes.
  • The anammox process converts nitrogen directly to gas, preventing nitrate pollution and lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to standard treatment methods.
